Matr Labs began by building machines for artists. For more than a decade, our artists and engineers have developed robotic systems that work with the physical language of painting; color, surface, material, movement and finish. Our Oil Edition takes what we've learned and makes it available to everyone. We built the machine ourselves in our own shop, and we run it by hand. We cut every piece of linen, apply the medium and finish each surface to decide when it is done. There is no automated line here and no catalog part we could have ordered. What we have is a machine we assembled, a process we worked out through trial and error, and hands that know what the piece should feel like at each stage. Every piece is handmade for you; a special gift from our studio.
